The increasing need to comply to CSR, ethics, and sustainability poses challenges and opportunities to the luxury industries, companies, and brands. Industries based on success, profit and growth are increasingly criticized by eco-conscious consumers engaged in a sustainable and minimal lifestyle. The shift to management models that address economic, social and environmental issues is at the heart of today’s managers’ agendas. Luxury companies and their leaders have anticipated the evolution of society and the lack of resources, and adapted their production, distribution and communication. They abide to world standards and look for solutions to stay relevant to young generations of employees and consumers’ shifting values. This course will present the global context, and standards by which companies abide throughout their value chain, and examine how companies adapt their models and plan relevant marketing strategies. Through case studies and discussions, students will be able to understand the managerial implications of this global and long-lasting transition. Finally, they will have the opportunity to reflect on their own personal position to become responsible managers of the luxury industries.
